Coat & Clipper

About Coat & Clipper

An independent, ad-free guide to the everyday grooming jobs owners do at home, and to recognizing the ones that belong with a groomer or a vet.

Coat & Clipper started from a simple frustration: most grooming advice online is either a product listing in disguise or a breed-show manual. Neither helps much on a Tuesday evening when your dog's back legs are tangling and you aren't sure whether to reach for the slicker brush, the comb or the phone to book a groomer.

So this site does one thing. It explains routine home grooming for dogs and cats in plain steps, with the reasoning behind them, and it marks the point where home care should stop.

What we cover

What we don't do

  • Veterinary advice. We don't diagnose, treat, or suggest medication or doses. Anything medical is referred to your vet.
  • Product promotion. We describe types of tools, not brands, and we carry no advertising or affiliate links.
  • Show grooming. Breed-standard trims are skilled work best learned in person from experienced groomers.

Who writes it

Every guide is written by Megan Lowry, a pet-care writer and long-time dog owner. She isn't a vet or a professional groomer, and we would rather say so plainly than dress the site up with credentials it doesn't have. Our editorial policy, research process and content standards explain how the guides are made and kept accurate.

Where we are

Coat & Clipper is written for owners in the United States, which matters for things like product regulation and vaccination rules that differ from country to country. We're an online-only publication with no shop or salon. The best way to reach us is by email; see contact.
